WA Mom-Daughter Firefighters Reunite Briefly at Cow Canyon Wildfire

Aug. 16, 2022
Benton County Capt. Bonnie Rogers and her daughter, Katie Benitez, fought the same wildfire.

As a little girl, Katie Benitez wanted to be a firefighter -- just like mom.

She dressed up as a firefighter for Halloween, and an engine was the backdrop for her prom picture. And, her burning passion never flickered out.

Benton County, WA Fire Captain Bonnie Rogers said she never pressured her daughter, but had an inkling it was a goal she would achieve.

And, she did just that.

After graduating from high school last year, she went straight into training and became a firefighter in Washington state, ABCNews reported.

The duo visited briefly in the midst of the Cow Canyon wildfire where both were assigned.

Benitez said she wants to be a positive impact for little girls.
